LACHEN — Lachen lies at an altitude of about 9400 ft. Tourists those who will visit Gurudongmar makes a night halt at Lachen. Lachen lies on the banks of river Lachen – Chu. Lachen is around 29 km from Chungthang and 125 km from Gangtok. From Lachen tourists can visit Lachen Monastery. From Lachen within 31 km is Thangu. Lachen is basically a big village. The main source of Livelihood of the locals of Lachen is cattle breeding, though tourism has also contributed to their mainstream economy.
