Daringbadi is a small hill station in the Kandhamal district in Orissa state in Eastern India. Daringbadi is widely kmown as ‘Kashmir of Orissa’ for it similar climate. Daringbadi is nestled at an altitude of (915 meter) 3000 feet and the whole region of Daringbadi is dotted with Pine forests, waterfalls, beautiful valleys, coffee gardens, tribal villages, wide species of flora and fauna and many others. Daringbadi is mainly settled in the hill station of Phulbani in the Eastern Ghats region to the south – western part of Orissa. The name Daringbadi is derived from a British officer who was in charge of this place name ‘Daring Sahib’ and the word ‘Badi’ means village. The region of Daringbadi is mostly inhabited by tribal people of the Kondh tribes. These Kondh tribal people of Daringbadi are further divided into sub types namely Kutiya Kondh tribes, Dangria Kondh, Desia Kandha, Bura Kandha, Muli Kondh and many others. These tribal people mainly depend on agriculture, cattle breeding, handicraft works, collecting nectar from the flowers and others to earn their main source of livelihood. But with the advancement of time these tribal people has also started to move to other professions to earn their livelihood. Apart from with the development of Daringbadi as a tourism circuit, many villagers have also started to shift to tourism as an alternate source of livelihood. The climatic condition of Daringbadi supports the cultivation of organic turmeric in abundance which already got G.I tag. Apart from that the local villagers of Daringbadi also grows Mustard, Arrowroot, Black Peas, Ginger, Pineapple along with wide species of medicinal shrubs and herbs. All over the region of Daringbadi tourists can witness numerous farmlands cultivating Coffee and Black Pepper which also adds to their main stream economy. Most of the people of Daringbadi follow Christianity as their prime religion.
