RISHYAP – THE HAMLETThis small Hill Hamlet placed at an altitude of around 8500 ft. above sea level nestled in the Kalimpong hills. Rishayap or Rishop is covered with greenery from all sides, with eye catching view of mighty Kanchenjunga at the front. If you are a true nature lover, seeking some awesome view Mt. Kanchenjunga with the view Sunrise, then make a plan to visit this pristine hamlet called Rishyap cradled in the hidden hills of Neora Valley. Rishyap literally means “Mountain Peak and Old trees”.  Rishyap is perched with Pine, Oak and Dhupi trees all around. Wild flowers, plants, birds which will surely attract your eyes. Located at the foot of Tiifin Dara. An early morning visit to Tiffin Dara from Rishyap (nearly 30 mins) to view Sunrise with snow capped hills of Darjeeling on one side, Kalimpong on other and Sikkim on the other will surely cherish you throughout. The view after the sunset from Rishyap with be another experience, the twinkling lights on the Kalimpong hills gives a bright glory to the snow capped mountains. Rishyap is located at 11 km distance from lava (four wheeler drive) and by walking at a distance of about 4 Km. The locals are mainly lepchas and shepras. You can walk down village with the majestic Kanchenjunga standing in front. One can also get a view of Nathula and Jelep-La pass from Rishyap on a clear day.

HOW TO REACH: Rishyap can be reached from two different major Railway stations in North Bengal. One is NJP, from there you need to hire a shared jeep which are available all the time at the station itself which will drop you at Lava (nearly 3 hrs journey) trains available are Darjeeling Mail, Padatik Exp. Teestaorsa Exp and many more, from Lava, you choose either by walking at a distance of 4 km or by by jeep (syndicate) at a distance of about 11 km. (nearly 45 mins). Or you can get down at New Mal Jnc. (only Kanchankanya is available) from there Lava is a a distance of about 2 hrs. (approx) from there again you either hire a syndicate jeep or by walking.
