Zuluk is a hamlet located in the lower Himalayas, at an altitude of 3000 meters. It is located in East Sikkim, near the Indo-China border. It is comparatively a new and offbeat tourist destination. In fact, special permits are required to tour Zuluk . Previously, it was a part of the popular silk route connecting Kalimpong to Tibet and was mainly used by traders traveling to Tibet. In winters, the entire area around Zuluk gets covered in snow and after the rains in September, this whole region is covered in wild flowers of all types. However, this small village of Zuluk is used as a base to see one of the most magnificient sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjungha. . Some of the forests situated around Zuluk are completely unexplored and offer a variety of flora. Various kinds of animals found in the wild forests include Deer, Himalayan Bears, Wild Dogs, Red Pandas, Tigers and Snow Leopard. The list of birds includes Monal Pheasant, Khaleez Pheasant, Blood Pheasant, Snow Pheasant and many more.  The three-level zigzag roads of Zuluk offers beautiful views of the Kanchenjunga and its mountain range. From Zuluk, you can reach Thambi View Point by driving on a winding road. Situated at an altitude of 11,200 feet; the spot offers excellent view of the entire eastern Himalayas. You can also go ahead and reach Lungtung, at an altitude of 13,000 feet to enjoy another complete panoramic view of Mt. Kanchenjungha. If you are aiming for the most memorable sunrise of your lifetime, then visit zuluk during the winters.  Padamchen also known as lower Zuluk is a village tucked in the slopes of the Himalayan foothills surrounded by a forest teeming with birds. Surrounded with thick virgin temperate forest,Padamchen village is an ideal place for the avid bird watchers.A nearby waterfall and a sparkling weather make this village on Silk Route circuit one of the best places to stay before taking the high-altitude Nathang Valley or Kupup Lake. Located at 7,000 ft, Padamchen is splendid in its own way. This quaint village lies at a distance of 8 kms from Zuluk and 14 kms from Rongli. Admired with breathtaking landscape and winding roads, this picturesque village of the Sikkim Silk route circuit truly offers a refreshing relief. The three-level zigzag roads of Zuluk, the placid Kupup Lake, Nathang Valley and all other destinations of the Old Silk Route circuit can be covered in a day trip from Padamchen. Drive for another 30 minute and you will reach the placid Kalpokhri Lake, Kupup Lake and Adi Baba Mandir. The contour of the Kupup Lake has striking similarity with elephant and thus it’s is also popularly called Elephant Lake. The highest golf course in the world is located near Kupup Lake and so is the Jelepla Pass. Padamchen is around 14 kms from Rongli but you would need permits to enter Padamchen (even Indian citizens) as it is guarded by the Indian Army.
