About Ziro, many antique books have been written by many scholars like Homen Drof, Mick Crow, and Urshula Graham Bawar (The Hidden Land). The settlement of the Apatani habitat was first discovered by H.M. Crow, in the year 1890 after several try Mr. Crow reached Zero by foot. An adventurous journey.  Near to North Lakhimpur there is Joyhing Tea Estate. The book “Hidden Land” where Mr. Ursuna Graham Bawar has described about Ziro and Bhon Homen Dwarf has described in detail in the book “The Apatani and their Neighbours”.

 Ziro is situated at an elevation of about 1500 meters above sea level. Located 167 km from Itanagar, Ziro has an imposing landscape of beautiful lush green forest, rivulets and elevated patches. From Hapoli at a distance of 5 kilometres is Old Ziro. Hapoli is a twin city with Government Offices, Court, local shops. In the past women of Arunachal Pradesh used to wear jewellery made of colouring stones and wood and also made tattoos on their face and skin. Though at present these traditions are not followed. Apart from the Apatani tribes, Ziro is also home to Nishi, Dafla, Sulung, Bangni and Tagin tribes. Many people used to visit from other states in terms of business. In the festive season these native people of Ziro used to wear their traditional dress. Arunachal Pradesh is also known as “Cultural Landscape”, due to its wide varieties of tribal people. From Ziro one can also visit Hong Village, just at the entry gate there is written “Welcome to Hong Village”. Hong Village is very different, one after the other there are numerous small houses of the Pyramid shapes. These houses are made of wood and bamboo. Once you get into these houses, one will stay amazed, the inner space of these houses is wide, in the middle of these houses woods are burning and acts as a fireplace. Apart from Hong village, there are many other villages those spread around Ziro, those may include Haza, Hari, Bela, Dota, Modung. At someplace one will get to see wooden platform, locally know as Lapang. Lapang is made from woods of Tija tree. Lapang is actually a place where all the problems of these villages are solved, a person mainly the head of the village used to sit on these platforms. Along with Lapong one will also get to see Nago, a temple of the god. It is mainly a pilgrimage site. At the front of these houses there are round houses used to store rice. There are no other tribes like Apatani, proficient in agricultural practices. Along with agriculture these tribes also cultivate fishes and frogs. In one word they practice Pisi-Culture at Ziro. From Hong village one can also visit the nearest local handicrafts center. From there a visit to Ziropotu is must, a wonderful view from the hill top. From there one can have a birds-eye view of Ziro. At the bottom there is a runway of the Air force. Another point of attraction is the musical ground, a large beautiful ground of green grass, here the Apatani tribes celebrate their yearly festival Dree, organised in the start of July. Another program is Hiri Paning, a festival where the locals plays different types of musical instruments. In this festive season many foreign tourists visits Ziro. Another places of visit are the Library and Museum and Kardo Forest, there is a temple of Lord Shiva on the hill top. There is also a Tarin fish farm at Hapoli. For nature lovers, there is a jungle near known as “Taal”. In the morning one will get up with the chirping sounds of numerous birds those inhabited at Ziro. From Ziro one can visit Daporizo, the hill top, the route is an up-hill. Daporizo is surrounded by dense pine, Orange, Kuwi, Jungle banana, fern, moss, orchid, and other numerous trees and shrubs. Literally Daporizo is a bird watchers paradise. There is temple of Lord Shiva. From there through the rumble roads there is a Kiwi garden which is worth visiting. On the steep slopes of the hills Kiwi are conserved. From Hapoli at a distance of about 5 kilometres by the ups and down route is Kardo forest, there a 25 feet long idol of Lord Shiva along with numerous Orchid, jungle flowers and numerous birds. In the evening the local villagers arrange for bon fire, one may indulge in the get together of the local villagers, they describe about their lifestyle, their daily needs and home modern lifestyle has affected them.

How to reach: From Ziro Guwahati is about 530 kilometres is Ziro, North Lakhimpur at a distance of about 122 kilometres. Itanagar at about 167 kilometres. Kimin is about 90 kilometres, Yiajli is about 40 kilometres, Yachul is about 25 kilometres and Daporizo is about 162 kilometres. Nahar Langun is about 101 kilometres. From Siliguri within a journey of about 22 to 25 hours one may Nahar Langun. The above distances are by road. By train one need to reach Guwahati, one night stay, on the next day travel to Nahar Langun.
