MURTI
Murti is a tourist spot situated within Dooars region of West Bengal, India. As the name suggests, Murti is a river that originates from the hills of Neora Valley National Park the place where Bengal – Sikkim – Bhutan border tri-junction is located. From the mountain area river Murti after passing through Samsing area meets the plains of North Bengal. On the banks of River Murti in the Matiali CD block of Malbazaar sub division of Jalpaiguri district a small settlement has developed known as Murti Village or Moorti village. Murti or Moorti village has developed as a picturesque tourist spot and is a great place for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. To the eastern side of river Murti is the dense wilderness of Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary while on the western side are some of the picturesque tea gardens of Dooars region. The continuous stretch of River Murti divides Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary and Gorumara National Park. River Murti further extends towards Ramsai where it meets River Jaldhaka. The village of Murti settled on the banks of River Murti is arguably so far one of the best tourist location of Dooars region with river, tea gardens, thick natural vegetation, wildlife and birds. - Murti is an ideal leisure tourist location in the Dooars region with close proximity to Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary (09 km) and Gorumara National Park (12 km). Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary can also be visited from Murti, but with an experienced guide.

How to reach:
By Air: Bagdogra Airport is the nearest airport to Murti located around 85 km away via Gajoldoba Road. Bagdogra Airport is well connected by regular flights service with Kolkata, Guwahati and Delhi. From Bagdogra Airport via Chalsa tourists can reach Murti. From Bagdogra Airport the common route is via Gajoldoba – Lataguri – Batabari it takes around 03 hours to reach Murti.
By Train: Chalsa is the nearest rail head to Murti or Moorti located at a distance of 08 km away, but all major trains do not have the stoppage at Chalsa. The second nearest rail head to Murti or Moorti is New Mal Junction located at a distance of 18 km away. New Mal Junction is the most convenient rail head for Dooars visit. Otherwise Murti or Moorti can also reached from New Jalpaiguri railway station located at a distance of 75 km away. New Jalpaiguri is well connected by railway network with other major cities of India. Both from New Mal Junction and NJP railway station direct cars on hire are available to reach Murti or Moorti.
By Road: Murti or Moorti is well connected by strong motor-able roads with the nearest destinations. Tourists will get both buses and hired vehicles to reach from Siliguri/ New Mal Junction/ Bagdogra to reach Murti or Moorti. Murti is also well connected by good road networks with rest of Dooars.
Best time to visit Murti:
- Murti can be visited throughout the year, but winter is highly recommended as during this time the climate usually remains very clear and makes it very convenient for tourist’s movements. Apart from that during winter season the water level remains on the lower side making it easy for tourists to take a dip in the crystal clear water of river Murti.
- Summers are also good for tourists, but during this time Murti experiences high temperature with humidity. Hence making it uncomfortable for tourist activity in the afternoon, but morning and evening are very comfortable for tourist movements around Murti.
- Murti can also be visited during the monsoon, but during this time the rain starts and most of National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries around Murti remains closed (mid – June to mid – September).
