Lolegaon is small tranquil Lepcha village in the hills of North Bengal. Lolegaon is locally known as ‘Kaffer’ actually Lolegaon forms the periphery of three villages KafferCharkhole and Pabong. But in the nineties Kaffer Lolegaon became mostly famous among the tourists and Kaffer Lolegaon started to receive maximum number of tourists throughout the year and hence it became Lolegaon. Situated at an elevation of about 5600 feet. Though lesser than Lava but Lolegaon is surrounded by numerous Pine, Fir, Oak and Cypress tress all over. The whole region of Lolegaon is covered with dense thickness of moss and fern all over. Lolegaon is at a distance of about 28 km from the main town of Lava. Lolegaon is an ideal option for nature lovers and wildlife photographers. Lolegaon offers a perfect landscape photo of the whole region. From Lolegaon one can go for a jungle trails and visit the nearest Canopy walk. From bird watchers, Lolegaon offers plentiful sights of numerous Himalayan birds like Rufous Sibia, Green backed Tit, Blue fronted Redstart, Yellow Billed Blue Magpie and many more. On a clear day from Lolegaon Mt. Kanchenjunga is clearly visible. Nearest to Lolegaon there is a small local market from where the locals used to purchase the daily products. At Lolegaon there are few Tibetan small Momo shops are available those serve delicious momos and Thukpas those are worth tasting.  The main source of income of the locals is farming, though recently few locals also efficient in driving. Accommodating the tourists is also another source of income for the locals at Lolegaon.

What to see: Lolegoan offers many things to witness for the tourists those visit this place. Among these the first spot that attracts almost all the visitors at Lolegaon is the Canopy walk or the hanging bridge, a bridge made of ropes and wooden plank, both the ends of the bridge is suspended on a tree and guarded by iron net on both the sides. The hanging bridge of Lolegaon is 75 meters in length. Tourists are allowed to take a walk on the bridge. Apart from the canopy walk, there is a monastery at Lolegaon which is worth visiting. The premises of Lolegaon monastery offer a breathtaking view of Mt. Kanchenjunga. At the front of Lolegaon Monastery there is an open courtyard where a large statue of Lord Buddha is placed. There are few other spots from Lolegaon which can be visited on a day trip like CharkholeKolakhamRishyapLava. From Lava within a distance of about 24 km is Lolegaon, and the route is guarded by numerous shades of Pine, Fir and Cryptomaria. Lolegaon also offers a stunning view of Sunrise and Sunset at the backdrop of Mt. Kanchenjunga. In the month of October Lolegaon hosts a flower show where varieties of Orchids are displayed. There is view point at Lolegaon known as ‘Lolegaon View Point’ offers a magnificent view of Mt. Kanchenjunga. One can also go around for a village walk and get to know the daily life of the locals. A nearest hilltop called Jhandidara which is about 4.5 km journey from Lolegaon, offers a breathtaking views of the whole region. Lolegaon also offers small treks and nature trails for nature lovers.

Best time to visit: Though Lolegaon can be visited throughout the year, but it is recommended to avoid the rainy seasons as because this time of the year Lolegaon becomes home to Leeches. The winter is the best time to witness Mt. Kanchenjunga.

How to reach: To reach Lolegaon the nearest railhead in New Jalpaiguri and the nearest Airport is Bagdogra. From NJP railway station via Kalimpong at a distance of about 124 km is Lolegaon. The nearest spot from Lolegaon is Charkhole also known as Charkhole Lolegaon which is only about 17 km and the nearest town is Kalimpong which is about 55 km. From Lava at a distance of 24 km is Lolegaon. There is another route to Lolegaon that reaches from Dooars via Gorubathan and Lava.
