Lingsey a remote village of Kalimpong sub-division is situated at an altitude of 4800 ft. and is 24 km from Pedong and 52 km from Kalimpong coordinates: 27 degree 9’46” North and 88 degree 40’29” East. It is assessable from Kalimpong and Gangtok also, via Rhenock a small town of East Sikkim near Aritar. From here most of the tourists visits the famous Aritar Lake, Mankhim Gumfa along with the historical Zuluk, Kupup, from there they reach Gangtok. But if anyone is keen on spending one or two days with the serene beauty of nature and far away from the hustling and bustling city life, then a perfect gateway of absolute silence, on the way to Mankhim resides a small hamlet Lingsey. A small untouched, yet lesser known village in the subdivision of Kalimpong. From Aritar it is about 4 km. The ethnic communities have distinct language, culture, customs and architecture which becomes an ideal experience for the visitors to sample. At Lingsey you will find that nature has poured all her beauty here, with lush greenery on all sides. From Lingsey on can visit to the nearest Mulkharka Lake via Pitmachen, through the hilly terrains. The lake is about 5 km from Lingsey village. Mulkharka is a small hilltop with the beauty of lush greenness. The silence of this small hilltop gets breakdown by the chirping sounds of numerous Himalayan birds. There is a small temple just in between the forest of long stretches of old Pine trees with mosh and plankton that developed by the passing ages of times. Here you will also get to see that Mt. Kanchenjunga standing tall under the blue sky. On this holy lake, the shadows of these long Pine trees are clearly visible. The name of the lake is Mulkharka. An egg shaped lake with long Pine trees surrounding the lake and the shadows of bright Mt. Kanchenjunga and a colourful Buddhists prayer flag, which also surrounds the lake, are clearly visible on the crystal clear water of the lake. Very often cold wind blows, that break all the silence of this place, you will hear nothing except the sounds of insects call. All comprises Lingsey, a complete picture postcard. On a day journey Mulkharka – Patmachen – Lingsey, these three small hilltops are a complete package. From Lingsey, there are few trek route has emerged, among them the most famous is the Neora Valley National Park trekking route. But on this way a guide along with permit from forest department is compulsory. Lingsey is basically a trekking route. At Lingsey one will get to see the cultivation of elaichi and organic seeds through the method of step cultivation. The locals of this village are mainly Rai, Subba and Nepali. While trekking through the village, one can get to see wide varieties of colourful butterflies, different flowers and many species of Orchids, those are found here. On the hilly slopes, there are the houses of the locals; few houses are used as homestays for the tourists. From Lingsey at about 2 km is Pitmachen. At the far end the greenery of Neora Valley National Park is clearly visible.

Things to do:: Bird Watching: Lingsey is situated in the elevation if 3600 ft. to 7400 ft. close to Neora Valley National Park, Suitable for the bird watching. Village is 106 km from NJP, far from the hustle and bustle city life and is typically suitable for camping and hiking.                                                                        Selected Sightings: Orange flanked Bush Robin, Plain- Backed Thrush, White collard Black bird, Rufous vented Tit, Goldcrest, Yellow bellied Bush Warbler, Grey cheeked warbler, Grey sided Laughingthrush, Slender billed Scimitar Babbler, Golden Babbler, Golden Breasted Fulvetta, Fire Tailed Myzornis, Black throated Parrotbill, Mrs Gould’s Sunbird, Maroon backed Accentor, Spot winged Resefinch, Red headed Trogon, Nepal Fullvetta, Brown throated Treecreeper, Grey headed canary flycatcher, Grey billed Tesia, Western crowned warbler, whistler’s warbler, white rumped Munia, white tailed Nuthacth, white throated fantail, Yellow cheeked Tit and many more.                                                                                                       Butterflies: Numerous species of butterflies attracts the visitor in the place. Such activity can be carried along the simple hiking in and around the village. Species like Dark Cerulean, Grass Yellow, Painted Lady, Blue Pansy, Indian Cabbage white, Wind Mill, Himalayan Searjent1, Indian Fritellery, Yellow Coarter, Dark Judy.

Local Watchable:: Servang Water Falls: The Servang waterfalls one of the tallest falls is the region having a height of about 200 ft. The second volume of water dropping can be heard from far off. Dhoksing Falls: Another beautiful waterfall called Dhoksing waterfalls, approximately 100ft. long water volume divided in three tream (three fold falls) attract the visitors eye. It is located in between Lingsey, Samsing and Jhusing. Loud sound of water deep inside the jungle is becoming a major tourist hot spot of Lingsey.                                                                     Mulkharka Lake: Mulkharka Lake situated in hill top, the village called Mulkharka. Shadow of Mt. Kanchenjunga reflects if the pure water of the Lake, Mt. Macha Puchre reflects in Phewa Lake in Nepal. All the drinking water sources of Lingsey village originate from the Lake. It is popular as Monokamana (wishing) Lake. In the time of Ram Nawami the villagers conduct a local mela (fest), the main attraction of the event is the local food, cultural program and trekking.

How to Reach: Either from Sealdah or Howrah or Kolkata Station (Chitpur) many trains are available up-to New Jalpaiguri. From NJP by shared or hired car up-to Kalimpong, which is about 70 km. From Kalimpong via Algarah – Rishi – Rehnok – Aritar to Lingey which is about 57 km. From Aritar at about 4 km is Lingey. From Lingsey at about 2 km is Pitmachen and from Pitmachen at about 3 km is Mulkharka.
