Bunkulung small village located just 15 kilometers from Mirik, via Soureni bazaar. Bunkulung is a picture perfect village with absolute silence all over. This small village is surrounded by hills on all sides and small streams flows through this village. In this tribal village the locals are mainly Limboos and Gorkhas. On this steep hilly slopes you will get to see cultivation of millet are carrying on miles after miles under the process of step cultivation (a common form of agricultural or cultivation process mainly see in the mountain and hilly regions). There are two famous rivers that flows through Bunkulung, are Murmakhola and Balason, these rivers have originated from this hills. At Bunkulung the breeding of trout fish is very famous worldwide. At Bunkulung 19 big ponds has been built up for the breeding of the Trout fish. In the year 2001, the fisheries department of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council has named Bunkulung as a model village for the breeding of Trout fish. Bunkulung is a paradise for nature lovers and travelers.

Things to Do: At Bunkulung you can walk around the village and visit to the nearest tea processing factory and can witness how the raw tea leaves are processed through the use of latest technology. Fishing can also a time pass while you stay Bunkulung. You can also move around the village on a horse back and see the village around. The local tribal dance and the cultural program are worth enjoying. In the evening camp fire with the villagers under the open sky is also worth enjoying. From Bunkulung you can visit to the nearest destination like Mirik, the nearest local market is the Soureni Bazar.  You can visit the nearby tea factory and tea gardens in Murmah and Gayabari. The Bokar Monastery in Mirik and the orange orchards of Rangbang can all be covered in day trips.

How to Reach: From Kolkata or Howrah by train to NJP or Siliguri. From Siliguri via the Siliguri – Mirik highway, Bunkulung is about 48 kilometers, times takes about 1 hour 30 minutes by car. Also there is another route via Dudhia, time takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. Bunkulung is 48 km from Siliguri.

Best Time To Visit: Bunkulung can be visited through out the year, bur it is recommended to avoid the rainy season for the chances of landslides.

KHIM KHESANG HOMESTAY

Khim Khesang Homestay is the only accommodation available at Bunkulung as of now. Khim Khesang Homestay has few rooms those varies from double bed rooms and four bed rooms. All the rooms are wooden furnished with attach bath (toilets are both western and Indian available as per the requirement of the guests). Restaurant facility is also available at Khim Khesang Homestay. There is  a school for the local children, which is worth watching.
