Bidyang is a tiny hamlet near Kalimpong sited on the river bank of Reili River ornamented with plethora of scenic landscapes blessed with rich flora and fauna along with ever smiling local communities is a stunningly beautiful tourist destination located on the sub-division of Kalimpong district on the route to Algarah. Bidyang is an ideal location for those who seek for an gateway from madding city crown within absolute silence all over. Bidyang is a hidden treasure of Kalimpong district that offers majestic view of the natural scenic landscapes covered with thick Oak, Pine and Fir trees all around. Bidyang is nestled at an altitude of about 3000 ft. but it does not offers the view of the snow clad Himalayan ranges instead the main attraction of Bidyang is Reili River flowing nearby and a hanging bridge constructed over the river. The main source of livelihood of the local villagers of Bidyang is the cultivation of Cardamom, Broccoli, Squash, medicinal herbs, banana and corns along with other species fruits all by organic process along with animal husbandry and fisheries as one will get to see Turkey, different species of cocks, few imported cows along with piggeries. On hill top of Bidyang Valley small ponds is built which is used for breeding of fishes. While at Bidyang village tourists can silently lay back and enjoy the pristine nature. The taste of the local food is also worth remembering.

Things to do and see:

  1. Tourist can visit the hanging bridge that measures about 400 feet long construct over Reili River which is covered with dense wilderness of thick natural vegetation which can a great time for recreational activity.
  2. From Bidyang within a trekking distance of about 30 minutes (half an hour) tourists can reach at Dima Falls. Though this waterfall becomes massive during monsoon season, but rest of the year this waterfall remain calm and quiet.
  3. There is an orange orchard located around 15 minutes away from Bidyang which is also worth visiting.
  4. From Bidyang in a day trip tourists can also visit villages like Samtahar, Charkhole and Pabong. Though Kalimpong and Algarah is also located very near.
  5. There are two bamboo forest located nearby to Bidyang which are also worth visiting.
  6. For bird lovers/ bird watchers and nature lovers Bidyang is also ideal location as the village is inhabited by numerous Himalayan birds.
  7. For nature photographers and landscape photographers Bidyang is also an ideal location as it offers stunning landscape of the steep valleys on both sides those descends towards the banks of Reili River.
  8. The vast stretches of the agricultural lands over the valleys are worth admiring.
  9. The view of the astounding mountains covered with thick natural vegetation of the lower Himalayas are worth enjoying.
  10. There is a viewpoint at Bidyang that offers breath-taking views of the valleys of Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills along with the meandering flow of River Teesta and Reili.

Getting there:

Air: The nearest railhead to Bidyang is Bagdogra Airport which is located around 76 km away from Kalimpong via NH10. And again from Kalimpong around 15 km away is Bidyang.

Rail: New Jalpaiguri Railway station is the nearest railhead, which is well connected with Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and other major cities of India. From NJP railway station around 88 km away lies Bidyang. Fom NJP railway station one can avail either shared/ reserved cars upto Kalimpong and from there by reserved cars Bidyang can be reached.

Road: From Siliguri which is well connected with Kolkata, Guwahati, Delhi by road tourists need to avail shared/ reserved cars upto Kalimpong and from by reserved cars Bidyang can be reach. From Kalimpong on Algarah road tourists need to reach at 14 Mile and from there to the right side upto Wachipa. From here within 20 minutes distance one can reach at Bidyang. Bidyang is located at a driving distance of 03 hours from NJP railway station and 45 minutes from Kalimpong.

Best time to visit: The best to visit Bidyang is October to May. Though during winter season (December to January) the climate remains cold, but the sky gets very clear. Monsoon is the best to explore the strong currents of Reili River and also the waterfalls becomes massive. But monsoon is not advisable due to changes of landslides. Summers are very pleasant and during this time tourist can spot numerous flowers and birds also.
